Award-winning, world-renowned Danish AI artist Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm served as artist-in-residence at Michigan State University from 2025 to 2026. During this time, she collaborated with more than 400 students, collecting data that became central to her exhibition at the MSU Broad Art Museum’s Berding Gallery. The exhibition features a large-scale interactive AI artwork exploring the lure of social media and its role in driving harmful doomscrolling. The artwork draws inspiration from the sirens in Homer’s The Odyssey, mythical creatures whose enchanting songs lured sailors off course and toward their destruction, while Odysseus had himself bound to the mast to resist their call.
